How it all started
It all started, with one electrician and Covid19.
In the mist of Covid 2020, Calvin Kleyn who was working within a family electrical company saw a gap in the market for selling Solar and Electrical components to contractors who was struggling to get access to stock due to the economic closure.
He soon realized that he enjoyed sharing his technical knowledge about all the products and services and registered Piri Solar Distributors and Wholesalers with the idea of targeting the African areas.
For the next 2 years, Calvin Kleyn was operating the business on the side lines, helping contractors where he could within the Eastern Cape region in the commercial and industrial industries. In 2022, his wife Janelle Kleyn decided to join Calvin on the venture.
They built a container office space from their house and slowly started getting the business off the ground. It wasn’t long after that, the sales team expanded. The dedicated sales team offers exceptional after-sales support and technical services.

Where we are going
Many people ask what does Piri mean? In Sestwana the hyena is called sephiri or phiri. in Tsonga means to be a hyena, i.e. a hard and fearless worker. This new business rapidly made its presence felt within the distribution and wholesalers’ industry, quickly becoming authorized distributors and partners for various suppliers.
In 2023, The Renewable Energy Sector boomed. Due to the increase in demand for Solar Energy products and it’s ever-growing customer basis, Piri Solar Distributors and wholesalers container office space from home became to small, with 200 x Revov batteries coming in on a weekly basis, pallets of panels and a wide variety of Victron components, Piri Solar Distributors decided it was time to move to a warehouse space which meant higher customer service and satisfaction for all customers which includes end users, installers and Distributors.
During our short journey, we have realised that due to the continue changes of demand in this industry, one needs to remain positive and push through with the changes, the sun always shines at the end of the storm. We are extremely grateful for our suppliers who believe in us and entrust Piri Solar Distributors with taking their brand and product further.
Piri Solar Distributors now covers the Commercial, Industrial, Automotive and Marine industries, covering the whole of South Africa.
